The Flora of Mount Rainier -- a Photographic Journey, by Susan McDougall

Cascade Willow - Salix cascadensis

Picture
One of two prostrate, alpine willows in the Park, growing above 6500 feet on open slopes and rocky flats where there is subsurface moisture. The stems rise no more than three inches above the leaves; here, seed is ripening in the capsules. Photographed on the trail up First Burroughs Mountain on August 7, 2014.
