An abundant tree species, often dominating forests below 3500 feet, Douglas-fir can be found up to 6000 feet on the east side of the Park. Huge  trees can be found at the Grove of the Patriarchs and in the lower Carbon River Valley, while 1000-year old trees grow at the Cougar Rock Campground.
