Shore Pine - Pinus contorta var. contorta
This small variety of Pinus contorta, found in a stand on the Trail of the Shadows at Longmire, seems to have been brought there, probably inadvertently, by the Longmire family as seed in shipments of hay brought in from their ranch at Yelm, where this variety of Lodgepole Pine can be found. The variety latifolia is found in the northeast part of the Park and is common across the mountains of Washington. Photographed at Longmire on August 16, 2014.
