Engelmann Spruce - Picea engelmannii
Found on the east and north sides of the Park, this conifer ranges from the valley of the White River to moist slopes and ridges, reaching about 6500 feet. At higher elevations, the tree assumes a reduced "krummholz" form, shown in a 2007 photograph from Third Burroughs Mountain at 7600 feet. The scaly bark and sharp needles were photographed in the White River campground on September 1, 2013, and the cones at Sunrise Point on September 2, 2013.
