With an arresting color known to stop traffic, this penstemon is most common on cliffs and talus between 5000 and 8000 feet, although it also grows at Box Canyon and in Stevens Canyon. Photographed (left) below Chinook Pass on July 1, 2016, and (right) at the Nisqually Overlook on June 11, 2014.
